A Note from Pastor Casey…
Parents and Kids!
Recently I was sharing a devotional with my family and we were discussing end time events and things happening in the world today. I was thinking from my own experience how these thoughts could be exciting but also a bit scary. As my thoughts went to scriptures of comfort and encouragement for each of us I was thinking of Romans 8; we are more than conquerors. If you read chapter 8 verses 28-39 you should be encouraged by these words. There is a lot of struggle and turmoil in the world today. Not just when you watch the news but it seems individually and in our families too. There’s a lot of crazy stuff happening. Why is this? Is it signs of the end, signs that Jesus is coming back? Is it just because our world is selfish and we all want our own way? I think it is both of these things. God’s word tells us this and Romans 8 :31 asks the question, “What shall we say in response to this?” The answer: “If God is for us who can be against us?”
We are encouraged by God’s word that He is our Champion and our Victor; if we have trusted in Jesus as our Savior. It may be tough at times to see His hand at work in our lives or in this world. But God is at work. He is working to save, encourage and strengthen His children. We are encouraged by the words of this passage that God the Father, who didn’t spare His own Son, but gave Him up for each of us… He did this so we could see and know that NOTHING can separate us from the love of God. Whether things in our families, our schools or communities cause us to wonder what is going on around us. Or whether it is something we hear on the news or see on the Internet, God is at work and we are more than conquerors. MORE THAN –isn’t that a great choice of words? The dictionary defines conqueror as to overcome (an enemy, army, etc); defeat; to overcome (an obstacle, feeling, desire, etc). Christians are more than conquerors because God turns everything, even suffering and death into good.

The apostle Paul encourages us at the end of this chapter that nothing can separate us from the love of God. There may be crazy things happening in our lives, or around the world, but we can be encouraged that God is in control and isn’t surprised by any of it. So be encouraged by these words and challenged to live humbly before the Lord and seek to live for Him each and every day!
